What is the Summer Institute?
The Think&EatGreen@School 2013 Summer Institute will focus on finding collaborative solutions to increase the knowledge and understanding of the connections between food, health and the environment across the food system in schools. A combination of plenaries and streamed workshops and hands-on, experiential activities will be relevant to both elementary and secondary schools and curriculums, focusing on different components of the school food system including: food gardens and orchards; composting and waste management; food procurement, preparation and consumption; curriculum and pedagogical innovations; and school food policies.
The schedule for this year is still being developed, but if you want an idea of what generally happens please look at the schedule from last year on our website: https://thinkeatgreen.ca/think-eat-green-school-summer-institute-2012-schedule/.
Working with others in our school communities is such an important part of making lasting change possible. As such we are asking that people try to come as part of teams, which could include teachers, administrators, support staff and community partners. As space is limited those registering in teams will be given preference.
There is a stream for high school youth leaders at this year’s Summer Institute. If you know youth that might be interested in attending please have them contact info@thinkeatgreen.ca. We are also accepting teams from other school districts in Metro Vancouver; please contact info@thinkeatgreen.ca about the possibility of bringing a team from your own school district.
